HELP Uganda is a partnership between HELP International in Northern Colorado and the Ugandan people in Eastern Africa. Every day, a small, poverty-stricken Ugandan village, called Masese, is being transformed into a place of joyfulness and aspiration. Many hearts and dreams are attached to this effort and have joined to bring Masese a vocational training school for adults and a free primary school for children that have never had the opportunity to wear shoes, much less sit in a classroom. Hope is budding as this impoverished village begins to see a way out of their preceeding generations of subsistence living. HELP International is sure that education and the understanding of micro businesses is the only true way to end the cycle of destitution and tribulation. With persistence on both sides of the ocean and God's grace, the future leaders of Uganda will come from Masese. From illiteracy to knowlege, from unemployment to business owners, from hunger to health, from invisible and voiceless to a known story of courage, the peoole of Masese are striving to see the light at the end of their long, dark tunnel. The goal of HELP Uganda is to help the less fortunate to become self sufficient and therefore emerge from their state of poverty and hopelessness. Anything is possible with wisdom and love linking humanity.

HELP International Uganda Primary School

In April 2009, HELP International & HELP Uganda birthed a free primary school for the children of Masese, near Jinja on Lake Victoria, the mouth of the Nile. With the willingness and courage of Ben Lubaale, a teacher, and Frank Mutambo, an overseer, HELP Uganda Primary School began in May 2009. On the first day of school, 45 children that had never held a pencil, much less never been in a classroom, arrived excited to learn. In just two weeks, the roster had increased to 90 children, some orphaned, all willing to learn Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic.

HELP Uganda Business Seminars

In September, HELP volunteers conducted a mission trip to Masese, Uganda, focusing on the primary school, medical endeavors, and the building project. This mission was unlike any other before, however, because HELP held a free three-day business training seminar for the people of Masese. Chris Harper, the teacher of the class, welcomed 35 eager Ugandans to the first day of class, and was happily surprised to see that the majority of the students were women. In Masese, most of the women do not progress past the fifth grade, and as adults, are then left by their husbands with children and no business knowledge to create an income. Chris was excited to hand the tools of self-sufficiency to these women.
